Joy McBrien
Joy McBrien is the founder of Fair Anita, a for-profit public benefit corporation partnering with 8,000 women artisans across nine countries to create handcrafted jewelry, gifts, and accessories. Named after Señora Anita, a social worker in Chimbote, Peru, Fair Anita was one of the first public benefit corporations in Minnesota when it launched in 2015.
With a background that bridges personal experience with trauma and a commitment to economic development, Joy has built Fair Anita on the principle that supply chains should be communities, not transactions. The business works with 19 cooperatives globally, paying artisans 2-4x minimum wage plus benefits, and prioritizes collaboration and co-design at every stage of production.
